Faculty Update - Dr. Makujina

John MThe Lord has greatly blessed New Covenant School as we are humbled to announce that we have hired Dr. John Makujina to teach Logic, Bible, and our Senior level English 4.

Dr. Makujina comes to NCS as a first generation Christian who was converted from an Eastern religion (Zoroastrianism). He fondly remembers his freshman year at Boise State University where he first heard the good news through a campus Christian ministry. After being drawn by the Holy Spirit for a number of months, he accepted the gospel and was forever changed. A call to the ministry following his conversion eventually led him to Westminster Theological Seminary (Philadelphia) where he earned his doctorate of philosophy in Old Testament studies. He earlier received a master’s degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in the same discipline.

Dr. Makujina has served Christ’s church in both undergraduate and graduate Christian institutions. Prior to moving to South Carolina, he lived in Minneapolis and taught at Central Baptist Seminary. More recently he was appointed Professor of Biblical Studies at Erskine College where he impacted young lives for Christ during his eight year tenure. Although no longer teaching full time at Erskine, he has maintained his affiliation with the college as an adjunct professor.

His academic interests include Hebrew and Greek grammar, the historical books of the Old Testament, and Christian apologetics. A number of his writings have been published in peer-reviewed academic journals and popular magazines. This penchant for writing has also opened up opportunities for him to work as a freelance writer and editor.

Dr. Makujina and his wife Kristin enjoy spending time with their four children, Shannon, Bethany, Miles, and Evan. Each of them is homeschooled using a classical Christian curriculum. Although the couple hails from the North, they have come to love Southern living.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. John Makujina to the New Covenant School family!
