Faculty Update - Assistant Headmaster

In recent years New Covenant School has been blessed by the Lord to grow in students, programs, and faculty. Our growing school has created more administrative needs. To help with the ever growing needs of running our ministry, the school has created a new position, Assistant Headmaster. The Assistant Headmaster will help in a variety of areas connected to the school including faculty development, website management, and K5 - 12th grade student oversight. New Covenant is blessed to announce we have hired Dr. Robert Barber to be our Assistant Headmaster.

Bob Barber has followed a non-traditional path toward his present position as Assistant Headmaster at New Covenant School. Ordained by the United Methodist Church and the Evangelical Church Alliance, after serving 4 years at St. Paul’s UMC, Pastor Bob joined the staff at Gloucester County Community Church, a growing interdenominational church in the South Jersey suburbs of Philadelphia, where he oversaw Christian Education and Discipleship ministries for over 26 years.

Bob’s passion has always been making disciples and as he gained experience in teaching and equipping children and families through the local church, the Lord led Bob, his daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Joe Canney to collaborate and launch Bethel Prep, a new classical Christian school as part of the ministry at GCCC. For six years Bob and our current Headmaster Mr. Canney worked together to build Bethel Prep from 35 students to over 150 students. After six years Joe was called to New Covenant School and after eight years Bob was called to serve for three years as Headmaster at Covenant Christian School in Smyrna, a northwest suburb of Atlanta, GA.

Dr. Barber holds a B.S degree in Business Management, an M.Div. degree in Pastoral Studies and Pastoral Counseling, and an Ed.D. degree in Educational Leadership, where his dissertation was a study of servant leadership during the transition from local church ministry to school administration and leadership. Bob has served as a short-term missionary in Ghana, West Africa, as a player/chaplain for a Saints Prison Ministry Softball Team, and recently as a consultant for an AdvancEd Accreditation Engagement Review Team. He has self-published two devotional books for growing disciples… https://www.amazon.com/author/robertbarber.

Together with his wife Ann Marie, Bob has raised four children and enjoys sharing life with 11 grandchildren. Bob is thrilled to finally land his dream job supporting Mr. Canney and the great team at NCS, where five of the current students will be calling him Pop Pop! Please join us in welcoming Bob to our New Covenant family!
