Q & A with Mr. Hart-- 2024/2025 Head of School

Q & A with Mr. Chaston Hart, the 2024-2025 Head of School

What excites you about New Covenant School?

Where do I begin!? Cat and I have been so encouraged throughout this process as we learned more and more about the New Covenant community. For us, it begins there. As crazy as it may seem, we have already begun to develop a deep love and sense of calling to the people of Anderson, South Carolina and New Covenant. Secondly, we love the mission and vision of the school as it aligns perfectly with where we feel the Lord has called us in this season of our lives. Through rich partnerships with local churches and the family, Classical Christian Covenantal education has a key role to play in our ever-changing world, equipping children for the road ahead.

In your eyes, what’s the impact of a Classical Christian, Covenantal education?

What is the telos of Classical Christian Covenantal education? I think our confession does a superb job of answering that question by asking “What is the chief end of man?” The chief end of Classical Christian education is no different. We are to graduate students who are equipped to know God more fully, thereby glorifying Him more fully, and thereby enjoying Him more fully…forever. What is the impact of this on our world? On our nation? On Anderson? Yes, third-party analysis shows that graduates of CCE schools tend to test higher on college entrance exams, they tend to earn mostly A’s in college, and they tend to have success in their careers. But what if it stopped there? We’d be falling short of all God has called us to be. The beauty of Classical Christian education is it doesn’t stop there. There are practical outworkings of CCE like higher test scores, but the real impact is graduating students who are wholly set apart for Christ and are ready to be used for His holy purposes and culture-transforming work.

Introduce us to your wife!

My wife is the greatest thing about me. She’s talented, funny, magnanimous, brilliant, kind, humble, empathetic, and most importantly, she shows me Christ each and every day. I’m still at a loss as to why she chose to be with me. Talented may be an understatement. She’s an artist of nearly every type – a woodworker, furniture designer, painter, ceramicist, photographer, graphic designer, and all-around sketch artist. The list goes on. Aside from that, she somehow strikes the perfect balance between full-on adrenaline junky and Netflix binger at the same time which seems to suit our family well. Cat will be your favorite Hart and I’m ok with that. She’s mine too.

What do y’all do for fun?

In her glory days, Cat used to backpack alone through Europe, bungee jumping out of perfectly functional mountain gondolas over the Swiss Alps. Oh, how she’s changed. Having moved to Savannah by way of the Colorado mountains, Cat (and I) are looking forward to having mountains nearby again. We’re also looking forward to having college football nearby. Ok, maybe that’s just me, but I’m ready to get some orange in my closet and watch Dabo sprint down The Hill before the Tigers take it to the Gamecocks yet again (sorry Liz Pearson and any others). Life in the low country moves at a different speed albeit one of great leisure, great food, and lots of sunshine. Aside from renovating a real “charming” home for the past two years, we enjoy spending time in and around the water, be it the beach or the rivers and creeks nearby. We’re fairly simple and mostly enjoy spending quality time with each other and with good friends. Oh, and apparently I’ll be taking up cycling as soon as I arrive in Anderson according to Tim Pitzer.
